We recommend this area for travelers spending three days or less in Denali. It minimizes time spent traveling to and from the park itself.

One of the largest hotels near the park, Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge, offers over 650 rooms across several lodges. The motel-style lodge lacks elevators, so guests with limited mobility should request a ground-floor room.
The grounds offer multiple dining venues, walking trails, and views of the Nenana River. Don’t miss the Christmas Cabin or a chance to have lunch at Fannie Q’s Saloon.
We had excellent Wi-Fi service at this lodge, available throughout the grounds. Even non-guests can use their Wi-Fi (password posted at guest services). Their main lodge is the nicest in the area and can seat a lot of people.
Denali Bluffs Hotel
Located on a bluff overlooking the Nenana River, Denali Bluffs Hotel offers comfortable, modern rooms with sweeping valley views. The elevated setting creates a quieter atmosphere while keeping you close to popular amenities.
Complimentary shuttles make it easy to reach the Denali visitor center, shops, and nearby dining without driving.
The real highlight here is the scenery. Whether you’re enjoying the landscape from your room or relaxing by the outdoor fire pits, the views deliver moments you’ll remember long after your trip ends.
Holland America Denali Wilderness Lodge
Formerly called the McKinley Chalet Resort, the Holland America Denali Lodge sits next to the Princess Lodge on the Nenana River. Guests can walk between the lodges for more dining options.
This property has a steep slope and a long uphill to reach the main lodge. Shuttle buses provide transportation if you prefer not to walk.
Our stay at the Canyon Lodge was comfortable. There is no air conditioning, but rooms have portable fans. Wi-Fi was poor and only available in the main lodge and Denali Square. The highlight of the lodge is the outdoor Denali Square, with cozy fire pits and live music.
Grande Denali Lodge
Perched on a hillside overlooking the Nenana River Valley, Grande Denali Lodge is known for its sweeping views and quieter setting. It’s a solid choice for travelers who want scenic surroundings close to the park entrance.
The self-service laundry is a bonus for extended stays, and the food at the Alpenglow Restaurant is fantastic, though pricey. If you arrive in Denali by rail on the McKinley Explorer, staff will pick you up at the train station.
Denali Crow’s Nest Cabins

Staying In Healy

Healy is a small town about 11 miles north of the park entrance. Many accommodations are log cabins, providing more space with bedrooms, living rooms, and dining areas.
Healy is a good option for adventure travelers. Fat Truck tours, River rafting, and ATV excursions are available here. We took advantage of an evening ATV tour, which was available due to the long daylight hours.
This location offers more affordable lodging, additional dining, and better access to grocery stores and services, making it a great alternative if park entrance hotels are full.

Rooms are clean, spacious, and well-suited for short and longer stays. Guests appreciate the complimentary breakfast and easy parking. For travelers who want comfort, value, and quick access to Healy amenities and Denali adventures, Totem Inn is a dependable choice.
